Qualifications & Requirements

Requires a university degree in field plus 5+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Technical proficiency; knowledge of software in the trade, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Word, etc. Trust and Credibility; Thinking creatively; Self Awareness; Accepting Ambiguity; Communicating with supervisor, peers, or subordinates; Time Management skills; ability to meet strict deadlines Ambitious; Independent; Results-oriented. Additional Job Details

Lead university-wide publications, including Old North magazine, the annual Report to the Community, the Commencement programs and more. Assist campus departments with development of area-specific publications. Prepare, write and edit copy to improve readability. Verify facts, dates and statistics. Read copy or proofs to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax. Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal. Review and approve proofs prior to publication production. Plan the contents of publications according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Read, evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication. Format print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles. Oversee publication production, including artwork, layout and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements. Be collaborate in the creative process and developing ideas for layout and photography. Be familiar with advancements in print, digital and online publications and stay informed of trends for future upgrades. Perform other duties as required to support the mission and function of University Communications.
